Ever since I was a boy, I knew there was something special about my home state. The rugged yet picturesque mountains and forests... The lush and verdant shades of green that follow you wherever you go... And the stunning, often breathtaking transition into the piercing reds, oranges, and yellows of Autumn...

I’m Sheel Gardner Anand—a born and raised Vermonter. I studied my craft under the acclaimed realist artist Carroll N. Jones Jr. and earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Vermont. You may have seen some of my works in:

  • Vermont Life
  • Vermont Quarterly Magazine
  • The National Arts Club in New York City
  • The Boston Public Library
  • The Southern Vermont Arts Center
  • State of Vermont Governor’s Gallery
  • Hotel lobbies, bed, & breakfasts and public places throughout the state

Using a unique multi-layer painting process involving egg tempera, earth tone washes and oil paint, I create luminous, real-to-the eye images that are exceptional one-of-a-kind works of art. Although craftsmanship is where my work stands out, the truth is that my paintings capture the hearts and imaginations of my clients because there’s a story behind each of them. And sharing that story with you is why I created…

The Memories of Vermont Collection

To me, this collection captures the essence of this state’s natural beauty, welcoming communities, and unshakeable warm spirit. The collection also taps into the energy of each season in Vermont…

  • The invigorating crispness of the Winter
  • The fragrant bloom of the Spring
  • The warmth and lushness of Summer
  • And of course, the myriad shades and hues of Autumn

Have a look below at a few of the most notable pieces in each collection.

Stowe With Last Light On Mt. Mansfield - Winter Collection

I remember a feeling of being pulled into painting the town of Stowe. And I didn’t so much choose to paint it—but was rather driven to do so. Like some sort of energy was compelling me to creatively capture this striking scene. And something about it—the warmth of the light from the homes reflecting off the snow, the quiet of the scene that you can almost feel, the comfort, serenity, and stillness of it all—has captured the hearts of so many of my clients.

"Your painting is gorgeous! I love it! I was surprised the original sold for over $65,000. I think the buyer got a fantastic deal. I wanted to confirm the information for my own knowledge and to share it with my son who will inherit it as an heirloom." – Frank Welsh "I truly love everything about the Stowe print! It captures the essence of the place so well. The combination of the colors, lighting, and perspective pulls you in. I'm sure it evokes many great memories of Stowe for everyone who sees it!" – Bernard D. "Out of 10, it's an Eleven... I'm so glad I met you. This is truly amazing work! It's just fantastic! Thank you so much for your effort and attention to quality!" – Stephen L, Vermont

The UVM Green At Spring Bloom - Spring Collection

This piece has tapped into the old college memories of so many of my collectors, as well as my own. I endeavored to capture the UVM campus as clearly and with as much detail as I could... The unforgettable architecture of University Row on the Green, the stunning variety of trees in full bloom, and the sense of hope and purpose preserved forever in this moment at UVM.

"It looks even better than I could have imagined. It’s proudly displayed at the center of my Great Room above my mantle/fireplace with a spotlight on it." – Joe H, UVM graduate "Your UVM Green print looks great at Merrill Lynch in Burlington and is getting wonderful comments." – Celeste Forcier, Shelburne, VT

Shelbourne Village 1955 - Summer Collection

One of my favorite works of the collection, Shelbourne Village 1955 is infused with a heartfelt nostalgia for the simpler times of the 50s. In this scene you’re instantly transported to the village green of Shelbourne, surrounded by vintage cars, and you may even see Norman Rockwell with his signature pipe. It’s a warm, welcoming piece that should leave anyone longing for the clean, uncomplicated living that only the 50s could offer.

"What a joy to have a print of your Shelburne Village painting" ~ Marion P., Shelburne, VT "It is not often I see local work that is technically extraordinary. The paintings of Sheel Gardner Anand are an exception... You can almost feel the sun on your face and taste the scent of barbeque on a backyard grill blown by the wind." – Excerpt from Burlington City Arts Review, July 2010 by John Anthony Designer
